PEL Waste Reduction Equipment Installs 22 IoT Litter Bins in the London Borough of Waltham Forest

PEL Waste Reduction Equipment has installed 22 solar powered litter bins in the London Borough of Waltham Forest. The bins are being rolled out to increase the efficiency of litter bin collection service throughout the borough in East London.

PEL Waste Reduction Equipment has installed twenty-two PEL120SSB solar powered litter bins in the London Borough of Waltham Forest. The PEL120SSB SolarStreetBinTM is equipped with an internal compaction system which increases its volume by up to 90% and a sensor that alerts the council when the bin is full and needs to be collected. The initiative is being rolled out by Waltham Forest to make trash collection more efficient throughout the borough.

The PEL120SSB SolarStreetBinTM is a heavy duty municipal litter bin incorporating an on-board solar powered compaction system that increases the litter holding capacity of the bin by up to a factor of x10. An integrated ultrasonic bin-fill sensor providing data on the litter levels within the bin is linked to a cloud-based data management dashboard which communicates bin-fill (litter) levels to the council or local authority customer via the SigFox or GSM networks. This reporting capability coupled to a route planning functionality within the software allows the council to identify which bins are full within their fleet of litter bins and to dispatch the collection trucks to only those bins requiring service. This reduction in journey’s cuts collections traffic, decreases associated emissions, increases efficiencies and ultimately reduces overall litter collection costs for the customer.

The SolarStreetBinTM product family utilises a standard wheelie bin and encompasses the PEL120SSB, offering a 120 Litre litter capacity and the PEL240SSB which is a 240L litter capacity variant. All SolarStreetBinTM IoT litter bins feature a solar powered compaction system, BriteBinTM data management software, patent-pending litter flap safety mechanisms and heavy duty construction.
