PEL Wins Contract to Supply US Army

SolarStreetBin™ Installed Clay Kaserne United States Army Base

The US Army in Germany is the latest customer for the SolarStreetBin™ from PEL Waste Reduction Equipment.

PEL Waste Reduction Equipment has been awarded a tender to supply 25 SolarStreetBin™ units to the Clay Kaserne United States Army base located in Hesse, Germany.  The Clay Kaserne base is close to the US Army Wiesbaden airbase.  The PEL120SSB bins will increase litter collection efficiencies at the base and reduce the potential of bird strikes at the nearby airfield.

The SolarStreetBin™ installation follows the US Army awarding a contract to supply after a competitive tender process for the technology was completed in late 2020.  The 25 units were installed this month where the increased capacity and BriteBin™ fill-level monitoring and notifications capability will increase the efficiency of the litter collection service. The installation will also reduce emissions associated with the collections traffic. More importantly, the sealed design of the SolarStreetBin™ eliminates vermin and especially birds, scavenging litter from the bin and by default, reduces their numbers within the surroundings of the base.

Benefits of the SolarStreetBin™

The potential for a bird strike is an ever present danger for aircraft taking-off or landing at an airfield. Open or overflowing bins provide a food source for birds and the presence of these scavengers increases the potential of a bird strike. The sealed design of the SolarStreetBin™ eliminates scavenging and the bin acting as a food source for birds. A lack of food will reduce the number of birds in proximity of the airfield and by default, the potential for bird strikes. This reduction is a major added benefit and alongside the increase in litter collection efficiency offered by the SolarStreetBin™ product was an important consideration in the US Army selecting the SolarStreetBin™ for the base at Wiesbaden.
