The Boogaloo Bar
The Boogaloo Bar is a busy, live music venue in Highgate Lodnon. The bar has a floor space of approximately 1000 square feet. The business is open from 5pm to close, seven days per week and has a turnover of approximately £15,000 per week.
The Boogaloo Bar Problem
The bar was producing 3 x 1100 Litre bins of general waste and 1 x 1100 Litre bin of waste glass bottles per week and having difficulties in storing this number of waste bins in the waste room available at the rear of the pub.
Solution
The Boogaloo Bar installed a BB03 ‘Jaws’ bottle crusher, PEL700 vertical baler and a PEL240 bin compactor. This gave waste disposal cost savings of £71.50 per week or £3518 per year. By reducing the volume of waste, the waste room developed into a lounge which seats 20 people. This additional area now generates extra weekly revenue of approximately £490.00 from party bookings and other social events.
Conclusion
The bottle crusher, bin compactor & cardboard baler generated significant savings on waste collection costs and reduced labour required to manage the waste. Space needed for storage of empty glass bottles, general & recycling wastes was reduced, congestion due to collection traffic was relieved.
Since we changed our systems of managing our waste we have saved on costs and it has increased on space available to us which was already at a premium. We have turned our old waste room into a lounge which seats 20 people and generates weekly revenue from party bookings…
