Port Of Galway
The Port of Galway approached PEL for assistance in solving overflowing bin problems in the harbour car parks. The issues were especially prevalent when car parks were busy with weekend tourist traffic . This meant that staff were unavailable to monitor and service the bins. Seagulls and other scavengers pilfering loose waste from the open style bins in around the harbour area were also contributing to the hygiene issues in the car park areas.
The BriteBin™ Solar was proposed to Port of Galway as a solution and four bins were installed in the harbour area car parks for an initial three-month trial period.
Outcome of the BriteBin™ Trial
Bin collections in the Port of Galway car parks were reduced from two collections per bin per day to two collections per bin per week over the trial period. Collection alerts generated by the BriteBin™ software solved the overflowing bin issues. As the BriteBin™ Solar is a sealed unit this addressed the problems with seagulls and other scavengers pulling waste from the bins. Additionally, the increased capacity of the BriteBin™ removed the need for weekend collections. The labour savings coupled with service level improvements convinced Port of Galway to install the BriteBin™ Solar within the public car parks on a permanent basis.
All in all I couldn’t be happier with the PEL Bins with a reduction of 8 labour hours per week it’s like getting an extra day’s productivity for free whilst at the same time we have solved the menace of seagulls raiding our bins…”
